Characters
Humans
Seraphina Perry
The daughter of two magicians associated with Hayes house who died in a mysterious house fire; her brother Oliver was also presumed dead. She was taken in by the residents of Hayes House before it was destroyed, whereupon she fled with apprentice Jaiden Reed.
Oliver Perry
Sera's brother, presumed dead in the fire which killed his parents but actually "taken in" by a preter research facility.
Ethan Hayes
Academic and head wizard of Hayes House, having inherited the role from Edward Hayes, his father. Adoptived guardian of Mara. Missing and presumed dead in the aftermath of its destruction.
Jaiden Reed
A demon-touched apprentice at Hayes House, she was appointed as Sera's carer before they were forced to flee together.
Vanessa Carter
Academic associated with several magician societies, though she possesses no magic of her own; as a young professional, she forged papers for Underfolk which allowed them to travel and work under a false human identity, at least until it became apparent they weren't aging.
Simone Reagan
A former engineer who worked for Pretech, a military affiliated company experimenting on preter-natural phenomena to attempt to develop weapons; after a crisis of conscience, she broke out a human captive — Jaiden — and left the company under less than amicable circumstances.
Demons
Mara Hayes
A demon discovered as a young "child" and raised by Ethan Hayes, Mara is the first recorded demon to break the assumption held by most dealers in the supernatural that demons (or "glitches") are inherently evil, hostile to humanity, and fundamentally inhuman.
Jackie
A possible source of the "creepy ghost girl" trope, Jackie manifests as small, blonde girl with a penchant for knives. Her body is unstable and pieces of it will frequently detach and float in the air around her as she moves.
The Red Woman
A single entity which can appear as either a shadowy figure or a red apparition that flickers as though on fire. She is a night time visitor and doesn't often appear in the day. Drowning on ink is frequent.
Glitch
So named because his body frequently snaps back and forth between various states of contortion as though software is glitching. Can cause heart attacks upon encountering.
Overfolk
Alyssa
One of the first generation of Overfolk born on Earth in an experiment, Alyssa left the compound she was raised in and ultimately renounced her former culture, choosing to assist Underfolk.
Jaia
Alyssa's progenitor and leader of her cohort, Jaia is determined to eradicate Underfolk at any cost.
Anton
Alyssa's brother and former classmate, he leaves the compound to attempt to locate her.
Luna
Princess of an extinct culture of Overfolk which was ultimately subsumed into the dominant militaristic culture, Luna is able to resurrect into new physical bodies on Earth. A small religious community considers her a goddess.
Mila
Luna's former sister, Mila is one of the few non-humans to be turned into an Outsider by mother of monsters Echidna.
Underfolk
Ginger
A fox Underfolk who's been involved in various smuggling businesses for centuries at this point; due to a short relationship with Vanessa Carter, she's decided to turn her talents to helping vulnerable Underfolk.
Lulu
A young wolf Underfolk separated from her pack who's found herself mixed up with the Hayes House.
Paige
A mouse Underfolk whose hundred year employment contract with a panther Underfolk named Nero has recently ended.
Luci Hatch
A bat half-Underfolk who's recently escaped her repressive (human) religious community.
Mateo Acevedo
A bull half-Underfolk who left college to go on the run after he was discovered by preter-security.
Kit
Ginger's youngest sibling, who wishes to follow her sister and get involved with the broader magical sphere rather than remaining in hiding like the rest of their family.
